| 22 TODAYS CATHOLIC | CEMETERY FOCUS | JULY 3, 1998 |
Wheres the rain?? Since March San Antonio and the surrounding area has received less than one inch of rain. As we are all well aware that has meant we have been placed in Stage I of a water conservation effort for the city, and with mandatory restrictions in the near future water conservation needs to stay on everyones mind. We at the Catholic Cemeteries need to say thank you to all the family members and friends of the deceased in our cemeteries. You have been very understanding during this crisis. Like other businesses, we here at the Catholic Cemeteries of San Antonio feel an obligation to the community that we need to do our part. Like most lawns in your neighborhood, the grounds of the cemeteries have suffered as a result of no rain. The grave of a loved one generally will stir emotions due to bewilderment of the loss and to visit the grave where the grass is drying or where cracks in the ground have appeared can make that visit especially difficult. But due to the lack of concerns from you we realize that you sympathize with us. Requests for sod planting is down, and in some cases family members have brought their personal water hoses and watered the grave/area while they visit. Please understand that we have not stopped watering and in some cases have asked some grounds personnel to work odd hours to get the most of the watering time we have. But if we continue to abide by the regulations of the citys water conservation plan, we will make it better for everyone.
