| 12 TODAYS CATHOLIC | CEMETERY FOCUS | MAY 22, 1998 | |
Isnt it odd that when we are going through the grieving process, someone will make the comment, "It is time to look to the future, forget the past, and put it behind you." What an insensitive and hurtful statement. We all know that we will never forget our loved ones, we had too many great times together. Moments of joy, happiness, sorrow, rough times, things that were done and accomplished together. How can we forget and put the past behind us? As long as we live there will always be a special place in our hearts and memories for the loved ones who have gone on before us. As I have walked the Catholic Cemeteries for 14 years I have seen how families and friends come and share the many memories of those loved ones. As families and friends walk the cemetery grounds and place flowers at the graveside, they remember the most precious times spent with their loved ones. It is like a place that brings the whole family in unity with the sharing of feelings together. What a great family tradition to be able to share expressions of love openly in memory of our loved one(s). As a Catholic, you have a great opportunity to continue this tradition of faith, uniting with others who also know and feel that the memories of their loved ones will continue forever. What peace of mind this brings as you walk the Catholic cemeteries; you can feel that the past will never be put aside but instead remains in your heart and mind forever.
